Why Do We Dance?

I remember when I was little singing fun songs like “Deep and Wide” and “Father Abraham” and all the hand motions that we did with it.  Even when we were older, we sang, “All the trees of the field will clap their hands,” and waved our hands in the air exuberantly!  But, God didn’t just intend for the children to have all the fun!  He created it for EVERYONE!

The Bible says in John 1:3 that God created the word ad ALL things in it for His pleasure (Rev. 4:11).  So, that means God created the dance!  All throughout scripture, it talks about the dance.

Psalm 149:3 – “Let them praise His name with the dance!”

Psalm 150 – “Praise Him with the tambourine and dancing.”

Eccl. 3:4 – “There’s a time to mourn and a time to dance.”

2 Samuel 16:14 – “David danced before the Lord with all of his might….”

In Zephaniah, it even talks about how God dances over us!  “The Lord takes great delight in you.  He will rejoice over you with singing.”  Zeph. 3:17  He rejoices over us, and the word “rejoice” actually means to “spin wildly!:  So, God is spinning wildly over us!!  Wow!

Another scripture is in Matt. 22:37, which says that we are to love God with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength (which is our body)!

 Why do we dance?

  1. To Communicate our Love to God
  2. Weapon of Warfare
  3. Set the Captives Free
  4. To Celebrate Victory
