What is prayer and what does it look like?  Five years ago, I would’ve answered that question much differently than I would now.  Over the past five years, prayer has taken on an entirely new life form, and become more of who I am versus something that I do.

Much like the air that fills our lungs to allow our mind and body to function, prayer has infiltrated all of who I am, and has begun to come out of me through whatever I’m doing….from my dance to my art…and even my silence.

Just as the ocean ebbs and flows, so is there a rhythm in prayer… inhale and an exhale…..a talking and a listening.  But, the rhythm is not set by us, but by the very heartbeat of God.  As I’m learning how to quiet my soul down and lean my head on His chest, my heartbeat comes into alignment with His heartbeat, and I am free to move, dance, and pray, not out of my own strength, but out of His.  Jesus set the example for us in John 5:19 when He said, “..the Son can do nothing by Himself.  He can only do what He sees His Father doing.”  There’s such a freedom in this place of abiding, and the one thing that I long for each day.  Psalm 27:4, “One thing I ask of the Lord: this is what I seek.  That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.
