What I love about the visual arts is that there’s such power in it.  God says the eye is the window to the soul.  So, a person can look at a piece of artwork, and it bypasses the mind and it goes straight to the heart…..thus bringing truth, light, hope, healing, and freedom.  No matter what nationality, race, age, or background of a person, art brings a commonality because there are no language barriers in it. One piece of art can speak so many different things to so many different people, but without ever losing it’s original intent and purpose.  This is continually demonstrated to me each time I hold a silk painting class and the students share what they “see” in the art.  Often each person will see something powerful that really speaks to them, but is completely different than what the artist sees.  Neither is wrong, but rather is the message that they are needing to see, hear, or know at the time.

When there are no words, there is art.  Colors and designs create an avenue to communicate what words just sometimes can’t, and can connect us to the heart of God in a way we’ve never known.

Genesis 1, God created the heavens and the earth, and all that is in it.  And then He made us in His image…in all His creativity.
